School Speed Zone Cameras & License Plate Readers Survey

Clayton County Public Schools is a district focused on the continued safety of all stakeholders, as such, the district is currently researching the usage of School Zone Speed Cameras with Automated License Plate Readers to deter excessive speeding within our school zones. As regulated in new state laws passed 2018, School Zone Speed Cameras recognizes drivers traveling 10 MPH, or more, over the school zone speed limit and issues citations with the approval of police personnel.  Utilization of the devices creates a less expensive way for police officers and deputies to issue citations to speeders near schools without devoting manpower to daily patrols. It is important to note, drivers cited by the cameras usually face a lesser penalty than if pulled over by a police officer. Tickets given by officers also typically come with points on a driver’s license, which the camera tickets do not.

As we continue to research a variety of initiatives to ensure the safety of all students, staff, and visitors of our school district and commuters in our school zones, our Division of Safety and Security has created the following survey to engage stakeholders and receive feedback relative to making our school zones safer. This survey will close on Thursday, September 19, 2019.
